New York City, NY, United States (CNS) – HBO is about to get a little more real.

The eighth season of the premium cable channel’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” will premiere live at 10 p.m. ET on February 19. Hosted by the notoriously sharp-tongued talk show panel leader, the show promises to bring the same amount of irreverence and insight about current events on an international scale.

For the inaugural episode of the latest season, Maher will welcome a variety of guests to his set, including “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane, MSNBC commentator Norah O’Donnell and former New York governor Eliot Spitzer. The group’s roundtable discussion will be sandwiched by the typical monologue from host Maher and interviews with guests both live in the studio and via satellite. The guests for the season opener include comedian Wanda Sykes and Elizabeth Warren, the chair of the Troubled Asset Relief Program Congressional Oversight Panel.

The episode will have an instant playback at 11 p.m. following its initial broadcast. It will play throughout the week at 11 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 21, at 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 11 p.m. on Feb. 24. It will also play numerous times on HBO2.

“Real Time” is one of many projects in Maher’s increasing résumé. Picking up on the show following the cancellation of the similar fare in “Politically Incorrect,” Maher has continued his career as a standup comedian with nine solo specials on HBO alone. As well as being a best-selling author, Maher also helmed the faith-based documentary “Religulous,” the reception for which amounted to the seventh most successful documentary of all time.
